The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged Kenyans to brace for sunny and dry conditions in the next five days.
In its weekly forecast, the department said that most of the country will remain sunny and dry between Tuesday, January 6, and Saturday, January 10, with occasional rainfall expected over a few areas.
Marsabit and Turkana counties are also expected to be hit with winds reaching 12.5 m/s during the forecasted period.
"Mainly sunny and dry conditions over several parts of the country. However, occasional rainfall is expected over a few areas, particularly in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the south-eastern lowlands," the department said.
Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties will be sunny throughout the day for most of the week, while nights will remain partly cloudy.
The maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 29°C, with a minimum of 07°C.
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as the inland parts of Tana River County, will also experience the same weather conditions as the aforementioned regions.
However, it will be warmer. The forecast predicts that the maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 32°C, while the minimum will be 14°C.
Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County, will also be sunny during the day and partly cloudy during the night, according to the weatherman.
These counties are expected to record maximum temperatures of 34°C and minimum temperatures of 24°C.
On the other hand, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties will experience sunny intervals during the morning and showers for the rest of the day. Tuesday and Wednesday nights are expected to be showery, while the rest of the nights will be partly cloudy.
During this period, the maximum temperatures in these counties are expected to reach 31°C, while the minimum will be 07°C.
Sunny and hot conditions are expected to be experienced by residents of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties during this period, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 38°C, while the minimums will be 16 °C.
Turkana and Samburu counties will also be sunny and hot in the next five days. The forecast predicts maximum temperatures of 38°C and minimum temperatures of 16°C in these counties.
