Law enforcement agencies have arrested and extradited an American citizen from Kenya, who had been charged with an overdose death in the United States in 2022.

According to reports from U.S. media houses, the man was arrested in Mire, Kajiado, on October 31, 2025, and was extradited to the U.S with the help of the National Police Service and other security agencies.

The operation to investigate his whereabouts was spearheaded by the Kandiyohi County Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office, with the assistance of other security agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service.

After extradition, the man was arraigned on federal charges with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in U.S. District Court on Tuesday, January 6, according to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office.

The man was initially arrested in 2022 over the alleged overdose death of a 19-year-old woman at a residence outside New London. An autopsy revealed that the woman died of the effects of fentanyl.

He was then charged with second-degree manslaughter, third-degree murder, second-degree drug possession, and two counts of first-degree drug sale at the Kandiyohi County District Court.

The man fled the U.S. after he posted a $300,000 (Ksh38.7 million) bail for release, which had a condition of not leaving Minnesota without a written approval from the court.

According to the Sheriff's office, the man will be arraigned in Minnesota at a later date on federal charges of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death, distribution of fentanyl resulting in death, and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

The latest case comes three months after another national of Côte d'Ivoire was extradited from Kenya to the U.S for conspiring to smuggle firearms into the U.S.

In a statement on  Thursday, September  25, the DPP, Renson Ingonga, revealed that the man was extradited to the U.S. on September 25, after he received a formal request from the United States for the suspect's extradition on Thursday, July 24.

According to Ingonga, the suspect, together with another accomplice, conspired between October and November 2018 to illegally purchase firearms in the U.S. and export them to Côte d’Ivoire.

"According to court records, [the man] and his accomplices conspired between October and November 2018 to purchase firearms in the U.S., primarily in the States of Ohio and Maryland, with the intention of illegally exporting them to Côte d’Ivoire," the DPP said.
