Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators against allegedly facilitating goons to sabotage his public events.
Speaking during an interview with Kameme FM and Radio on Monday, January 12, Gachagua alleged that leaders affiliated with President William Ruto's administration have been hiring PSV vehicles to attack his public events as well as those of his allies.
Gachagua claimed that some owners of the unnamed PSV saccos, particularly those operating in Thika, were unaware that their vehicles had allegedly been exploited to carry out the covert scheme.
The Democratic for Citizen Party (DCP) leader has cautioned that matatu owners should not complain "if their vehicles fail to return."
"I want to tell people who own saccos that they are very lucky because the other day, some people had hired over 20 PSV vehicles to take goons in Gatundu to attack my supporters, and it was just a matter of minutes; the residents could have burned them, and I know some of those who own the saccos were not aware," Gachagua said.
"I have a message to owners of the Matatu saccos, that the people have warned that if they dare to give goons their vehicles, if it fails to come back, do not complain," Gachagua said.
The statement by Gachagua comes a day after he alleged that goons tried to attack him during a church service in Gatundu on Sunday.
According to Gachagua, residents of the area immediately neutralised the goons, who he claims were under police protection.
Gachagua further alleged that the police lobbed teargas canisters inside the church, which was full of women, children, as well as other congregants.
"I salute the people of Gatundu South for their courage and bravery. They are the true sons and daughters of Mau Mau. I was amazed by their determination to make sure goons and state-sponsored militia are not allowed to disrupt peace," Gachagua said.
"They repulsed and disarmed hundreds of goons under police protection that had been sent to beat up our supporters and attack our convoy. They protected the church, women, children, and the home, mourning four departed souls and the five public rallies we held," he added.
Speaking at a public event on Sunday, January 11, Gachagua urged Kenyans to boycott the matatu saccos.
