Why Daily Nation Publishes Different Editions on Same Day

A well placed source at the Nation Media Group has revealed why the Daily Nation publishes newspapers bearing different front page headlines on the same day.

The NMG official disclosed that at least three editions of the Nation newspaper are published daily and are tailored for various regions across the country.

However, the Editions could sometimes rise to five, in the same day, depending on the number of news items available.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the source stated that the media house normally publishes an Edition for Nairobi, Coast and Western regions which may differ in terms of the headline and front page layout.

On how to differentiate the various Editions of a day, our source stated that the variance is indicated by black stars on the top left side of the cover page.

The Nairobi Edition normally has one star, the Western region has two stars while the Coastal region Edition has three stars on the same spot on the front page.

However, the media house did not disclose the rationale used in deciding what headline is splashed on each of the publications, terming it as their 'internal editorial secret'.

This practice is also used by other dailies, depending on the target readership's interest, the media house's marketing strategy among other reasons.
