EACC Detectives Raid Houses of Nandi County Government Officials, Recover Sh 5.7 Million

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives raided the home of a senior Nandi County official during ongoing investigations into a Sh2 Billion corruption scandal.

The EACC sleuths arrived at the home of Nandi county roads chief executive, Alex Buigut looking for crucial documents that would aid in the probe.

During the raid, the detectives recovered Sh5.7 Million inside the house located in Langas estate, Eldoret.

The officer in charge of the operation, Enock Otiko described the recovery as a major win adding that the documents would be helpful in the investigations.

"We have been facing challenges in accessing the vital documents from the county to facilitate investigations into the corruption allegations," He said.

Eight other county officials who are also being investigated in the scandal escaped similar raids conducted in their homes and have since gone into hiding.

EACC officials began their probe in the alleged scam after the Nandi Senator Stephen Sang raised alarm on how Sh12.5Billion allocated to the county had been used.

The county government has in the recent past come under sharp criticism with the Senator accusing Governor Cleophas Lagat of presiding over a corrupt administration with nothing to show despite receiving billions.
