NASA Flag bearer Raila Odinga Refutes Claims Maize Crisis Started With Coalition Government

National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer and Opposition chief Raila Odinga has refuted claims by President Uhuru Kenyatta that he was to blame for the current maize crisis.

Speaking in Rarieda Constituency, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader denied accusations from President Kenyatta that the Coalition government was the root cause of the crisis.

Odinga stated that he dealt firmly with allegations of corruption over the issue and fired the then Minister for Agriculture, William Ruto.

“I sacked Ruto for messing up with the maize issue,” pointed out Odinga. He, however, noted that his action was instead reversed by President Mwai Kibaki who reinstated Ruto.

Odinga instead poked holes at the maize importation by the Jubilee government and queried the manner in which it was transacted.

He vowed to reveal to the public who was behind the controversial maize importation from Mexico

“The maize which arrived in Kenya on May 12 was acquired in a fishy deal that puzzles the public,” said Odinga.
