Kiambu Governor William Kabogo Appointed as Council of Governors Chief Whip

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been appointed as the new Chief Whip of the Council of Governors (CoG) a position that was previously held by Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani.

In a meeting that brought together all the 47 governors, Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok was elected as the new chair of the CoG, taking over from Meru Governor Peter Munya.

Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu was re-elected for a second time as the Deputy chair of the Council of Governors.

Munya, in his end of term speech, pointed out that although devolution has faced myriad challenges, there was a positive impact felt by Kenyans.

He noted that devolution has made major strides in reviving the country’s economy and improving the welfare of Kenyans.

Munya highlighted that a lot of resources had so far been set aside and taken to various counties in order to tranform lives of the citizens at the grassroots.

Governor Nanok becomes the third governor to hold the seat with the first CoG chair being Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto who held the position from 2013 until May 21, 2015.

According to the Kenyan Constitution, the chair of the CoG is only eligible to serve for two terms, one year each.
