Ababu Namwamba Denies Being Paid to Support Uhuru Kenyatta

Budalangi Member of Parliament (MP) Ababu Namwamba has responded to allegations of being paid to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.

Through a statement issued on Tuesday, Namwamba refuted claims that he had received money to back Jubilee and reduce the Opposition's support in the Western region.

Namwamba, who is former ODM Secretary General, explained that his move was motivated by a decision by the Labour Party of Kenya.

He stated that he was exercising his democratic right by supporting Kenyatta adding that his party would deliver votes to the President's camp.

"Without a morsel of doubt, we shall deliver some very serious numbers to the UhuRuto ticket. The era of that old politics of balkanising the country into exclusive zones for this or that party is long gone. I am enjoying going against the grain by ensuring NASA doesn't take power in the August polls," he asserted.

The lawmaker dismissed claims that he was being used to fight ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula by ditching the Opposition.

Namwamba parted ways with ODM in 2016 accusing a section of the party leadership of frustrating his work as the Secretary General.

He later joined the Labour Party as the leader and will use it to defend his seat against ODM's Raphael Wanjala in the August 8 Election.

Earlier in the year, he announced that the Party's decision-making body had resolved to back the Head of State due to Jubilee government's development record.
