Hassan Joho's Running Mate, William Kingi, to Take Over as Mombasa Governor in 2022

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has revealed his new plan if he is re-elected in the August 8 General Election.

Speaking on Thursday morning during the unveiling of his running mate, Joho stated that once elected back to office, he will serve for only one more term.

According to Joho, he will then leave the leadership of the County in the hands of his Deputy so that he vies for the Presidency in the 2022 polls.

If the plan goes through, the Governor will compete for the country's top job with among others, Deputy President William Ruto who has also expressed interest in the seat.

"I will leave my running mate to serve Mombasa people and seek the presidency,” he stated.

Joho unveiled businessman William Kingi as his running mate after his deputy, Hazel Katana, defected from ODM to Jubilee.

He praised the 47-year-old Kingi as having enough administrative experience to manage the county having served as the Chairman of the Business Studies Department in Jomo Kenyatta University and head of the Secretariat of Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani.

At the same time, Joho reiterated his sentiments that academic performance should not be used to determine the fate of a person.

He narrated how he endured a difficult childhood due to his poor background adding that it did not deter him from succeeding.
