Mombasa Governor Ali Joho Allowed to Attend Launch of SGR With President Uhuru Kenyatta

The government has declared that Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is free to attend the launch of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) which will take place on Wednesday.

According to Government spokesman Erick Kiraithe, Governor Joho had every right, like other Kenyans, to attend and celebrate the historic launch.

Kiraithe, however, cautioned that Joho should not issue ultimatums to the government and force his way to the dais.

He stated that the government had a protocol office to deal with how the programme would be run on that historic day.

"The government has a protocol office to organise the programme. My only advice for Joho is not to go to the media and tell them he wants to be part of the programme. I hope Joho has the capacity to understand how these events are organised. He cannot be an exception," stated Kiraithe.

The spokesman added that the Jubilee project would also be beneficial to Mombasa County calling on the Governor to support the initiative.

“All mischief notwithstanding, the government wants every Kenyan to feel they are part of this victory because it is a victory for all. Joho should celebrate because, in terms of tourism and job opportunities, the people he leads have a lot to celebrate," noted Kiraithe.

Kiraithe was speaking to the press at the Travellers Beach Hotel.

The ODM deputy leader has had a frosty relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta and has threatened to storm the launch demanding that the President account for Sh100 Billion used in the project.

He had warned that he would stop the event should his questions not be answered when Kenyatta commissions the first phase of the SGR on Wednesday.
