To the disappointment of many Kenyans, the public will have to wait until January to begin enjoying full services of the standard gauge railway (SGR).
The contractor is still putting final touches on the project that is expected to lower the cost of transport between Nairobi and Mombasa.
Additional coaches and train engines are also scheduled to be delivered to see the project operate at full capacity.
The trains will operate alternating daily trips to and from Nairobi.
Nairobi to Mombasa trips will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The Standard Gauge Railway was launched today by President Uhuru Kenyatta in a lavish ceremony, with the president making a maiden trip in the train dubbed Madaraka Express.
Having set the deadline for the launch before this year's Madaraka Day, the government, as well as the contractor, were in a rush to beat the deadline.
The project is also a flagship project of the Jubilee administration.
A section of Kenyans argues out that delivering the project on time would help in securing votes for Jubilee, counting the project as a promise delivered.
Kenya Railways Corporation that is responsible for managing the fleet was not available for a confirmation of the exact date when the project will begin operating at full capacity.
