Two Teachers Missing After Al-Shabaab Militants Attack, Burn School

Two teachers are reportedly missing after suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked and burnt a school in Fafi, Garissa County.

According to sources, the militants, armed with small arms and explosives razed the school in the overnight attack.

The militants who carried the attack reportedly targeted and vandalised a mobile communication mast in the area.

The attack comes hours a day after four Administration Police (AP) officers were killed on Wednesday when their armoured personnel carrier (APC) hit an explosive device at Baure area in Lamu County.

The officer in charge of the Multiagency Security Team in Lamu, Noah Mwavada, said the seven officers from the Mangai Rapid Border Patrol Unit were travelling to Mokowe to refuel the vehicle.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers rushed to the scene to help the officers but were attacked by suspected Al Shabaab Militia resulting to a firefight.

Bodies of four officers and a civilian were recovered after the incident but two other officers who were in the vehicle are said to have disappeared.

The Multi-Agency Security team has been working to contain multiple militia attacks in the area since 2014.

Last week, a similar attack left three AP officers died after their vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted at Liboi in Garissa County.

North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh stated that the officers hit a landmine when they were on patrol in Kulan area.

A day later, five more police officers died after their vehicle ran over a landmine in the same area.
