President Uhuru Kenyatta Pays Women Who Entertained Him Sh3.2 Million

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday came to the rescue of the over 462 women who entertained him at the Madaraka celebrations in Nyeri but had not been paid their dues by the County as agreed.

The President paid the women Sh3.2 Million that is expected to cover their allowances for the six days they practiced the songs prior to yesterday's event.

Nyeri County Commissioner Mr Ngumo Karuku confirmed the incident stating that State House had paid the women their full dues following the standoff with the County Government.

"The President intervened and they have been paid. The money is for allowance fee promised for 6 days they had practiced their songs," he stated.

One of the women narrated their ordeal through the hands of the County Government and thanked the president for saving them.

"We had no fare and the County Government officials jumped the deal.

"We camped outside the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices where we allowed to spend the night in the corridors. Some politicians came and gave us bread and sodas for supper. We appreciate the President he has saved us," she stated.

Earlier on, the women had accused the County Government of Nyeri led by Samuel Wamathai of frustrating them causing one of the women to collapse as she had not eaten from 5:00 am on Thursday morning.

The group had also threatened to disrupt Governor Wamathai’s submission of nomination papers to IEBC until their dues were paid in full.
