Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has been in the news of late after announcing his running mate, Vivo Energy Manager Polycarp Igathe, but on Tuesday he posted a photo with Nairobi Woman Representative Rachael Shebesh that evoked a lot of reactions.
In the photos, Sonko was escorting Shebesh as she left the hospital and was in the company of Nairobi Senatorial aspirant Johnson Sakaja, former Starehe Legislator Simon Mbugua and other politicians.
A close aide to Shebesh told Kenyans.co.ke that Shebesh was hospitalised after sustaining an injury from a barbed wire during one of her political campaign rallies and the wound that was on her foot became infected and was declared septic.
The post by Sonko captioned, "Our Women rep Hon. Rachel Shebesh has been discharged from hospital. We did our first strategy meeting as Team TRIPPLE 'S' today. I wish her a quick recovery," elicited many reactions from Kenyans who reminded Sonko of his past relationship with Shebesh.
Kenyans tore into Sonko because, in one of the photos, he was seen carrying Shebesh's bag, a duty many expect to be done by the spouse.
"Si kibeti angebebewa na bwanake," (Her handbag should have been carried by her husband) asked one Facebook user.
Another user joked: "The smile you give when you see your mpango wa kando."
Sonko swiftly responded by saying his was a genuine smile after seeing his best friend.
Here are some of the photos and comments.
