Kiambu Governor William Kabogo Ordered to Pay Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu Sh5.3 Million

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been ordered to pay Kabete Member of Parliament (MP), Ferdinand Waititu, Sh5.3 Million.

The order was issued on Wednesday by the High Court after he lost a case challenging the authenticity of Waititu's degree.

Kabogo had questioned the MP's academic credentials claiming that he (Waititu) had not attended Punjab University in India.

According to the Governor, he had not seen or met Waititu at the institution despite having been in the same school at the same time.

Governor Kabogo claimed that the Kiambu gubernatorial aspirant had forged his degree certificate from the University adding that he had breached the Leadership and Integrity Act.

In his defence, Waititu accused the Governor of seeking to wrongly use the court process to tarnish his political name and support, given that the two are vying for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat.

The High Court earlier on dismissed the case stating that the issues raised could be handled by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Waititu later filed a petition seeking Sh50.9 Million compensation to cater for the cost of his defence.

Through his lawyer, Harrison Kinyanjui, the former Embakasi MP said the amount arose from research and court presentations in the case where the Governor wanted Waititu declared unfit to hold public office.

The Kabete legislator recently beat Kabogo to clinch the Jubilee ticket in the Kiambu governorship race.
