Kenyan Athete Daniel Njenga Kidnapped in Gilgil

A Kenyan long-distance marathon athlete was kidnapped by an unknown number of armed men at Ol-Kalou in Gilgil.

Daniel Njenga, who has been missing for two days, was abducted on his way to pick his daughter from school.

The Japanese-based Athlete was driving an X-trail car model and was reportedly carjacked before his abduction.

"Whenever the Athlete cum Businessman is in the country he usually drops his daughter at Pembroke House Preparatory School every morning and picks her up in the evening. He had left Nyahururu at around 3 pm but never got home," Nyandarua North OCPD Timon Odingo stated.

According to Mr Odingo, the search for Njenga began after the school's management alerted Njenga's wife, Monica, that their daughter had not been picked from school as usual.

Police investigations showed the athlete had last used his phone in Kipipiri area while some people reported having seen his car driving towards Nairobi.

Njenga made his breakthrough in athletics in 2002 when he became a runner-up at the Beppu-Oita Marathon and Chicago Marathon where he was named the third fastest runner in the world.

He won the Tokyo International Marathon in 2004,  the Sendai Half Marathon in 2006 and the Tokyo Half Marathon in 2007.

Njenga was featured in the 2007 marathon documentary named Spirit of the Marathon.

The Athlete owns several businesses in Nyahururu among them the Nyahururu Olympia Hotels and the Nyahururu Sports Arena Hotel.
