Kenyan Billionaire John Harun Mwau Once Served As a Police Sharp Shooter

Kenyan billionaire John Harun Mwau, who has been named as one of the wealthiest people in Africa, was once a police officer.

The Former Kilome Member of Parliament (MP) joined the police force in his 20s where he served as an acclaimed squad sharpshooter.

During his career as a security agent, he twice participated in the Olympics during the 1968 and 1972 Summer games.

He was later reportedly sacked from the force after refusing to shave his beard claiming that he had a skin condition that worsened on shaving.

The businessman founded the Party of Independent Candidates of Kenya (PICK) and vied for the presidential seat in 1992.

After the death of former Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo, Mwau sought to replace him but the seat was clinched by Kilonzo's son Mutula Kilonzo Junior.

Mwau has in the past been accused of involvement in drug trafficking, fraud and money laundering all related to his immense wealth, allegations he has always denied.

His assets were once seized by the US government which issued a travel advisory against him in relations to his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
