7 North Rift Leaders Vow to Support NASA Flag Bearer Raila Odinga

Seven allies of Deputy President William Ruto have vowed to support National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga.

The leaders including a Member of Parliament and former legislators from the North Rift region declared to back Odinga ahead of the August General Election.

Led by former Eldoret South MP Peris Simam, the seven, speaking at different forums stated they would lobby votes for the Opposition.

They accused the Jubilee government of focusing on the 2022 succession instead of concentrating on improving the economic status of the area.

The others include; Chesumei lawmaker Elijah Lagat, former URP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Koech,, former MPs Jesse Maiz (Eldoret South), John Cheruiyot (Aldai), Stephen Tarus (Emgwen) and a former Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) director Judith Cheptoo Koskei.

According to Lagat, Jubilee had overseen several problems such as unemployment and the high cost of living which could only be reversed through a regime change.

“JP has failed and will lead us nowhere. The road projects they talk about were done during the Grand Coalition regime and includes Mosoriot-Kaiboi, Chepterit-Kapsisiywa in Nandi and even the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR),” he told the Standard.

On his part, Koech accused the government of using public resources to bail out some parastatals without taking action on those who caused their downfall.

“Parastatals are supposed to generate revenues to the Exchequer. The Government is spending millions in bailing them out of financial crisis yet it has failed to arrest those behind mismanagement,” lamented Tarus.

They indicated that they would now launch campaigns for Odinga's re-election instead of thinking about the 2022 politics.
