President Uhuru Kenyatta Mourns Victims of Boat Accident in Lamu

President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the 14 people killed in a boat tragedy in Lamu County on Tuesday afternoon.

In his message, Kenyatta condoled with the families, relatives and friends of the victims of the boat accident noting that it was particularly sad that the incident occurred at a time when majority of the people in the area are observing the holy month of Ramadhan.

President Kenyatta wished quick recovery to those who were rescued and are admitted at King Fahd Hospital in Lamu.

The President urged all Kenyans to continue praying for God to deliver the nation from such tragedies especially during this month when Muslims are fulfilling their religious obligation.

The boat which was ferrying people and building materials from Ndau Islands to Lamu, capsized at Mkanda Channel as a result of high tides.

According to Lamu West Deputy County Commissioner Louis Rono, 16 people were rescued but the whereabout of 60 others was still unknown.
