Baraton University of East Africa Shuts Down Nairobi, Kisii, Eldoret, and Kisumu Campuses.

The Baraton University of Eastern Africa has closed down its Nairobi, Kisii, Eldoret, and Kisumu Campuses.

In a statement, Vice Chancellor Phillip Maiyo stated the decision was made due to the decreased student enrollment.

"The university council, in its meeting of June 18, 2017, decided to close the four campuses located in Eldoret, Nairobi, Kisumu and Kisii with immediate effect.

"All students in these four campuses are required to report to the main campus where further details will be communicated to them," the VC's letter read in part.

A university senate official who sought anonymity said the closure would lead to heavy job cuts.

Students and parents have threatened to take court action against the university’s decision to shut down the campuses.

The university staff accused the senate and administration of mismanaging and running down the institution.

"It is indeed very unfair to us as students; the cost of moving from Nairobi to Baraton in Nandi is unbearable as I enrolled in the Nairobi campus because of its proximity to my home and workplace," a student lamented.

"The workers may have to resort to court for legal action against the university; I hope they have a clear exit plan for all workers to cushion us from the sudden loss of our jobs," a Kisii campus worker expressed.

Baraton is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
