Jembeka Festival Protests Against Naming of Tanzanian Street After Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama

The sign for a street named after Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama in Tanzania has been pulled down.

This happened on Sunday after a Tanzanian group, Jembeka Festival, protested the decision saying that due process was not followed.

"Street names are recommended by committees who then present the suggestion to sittings of the Ward Development Committee (WDC), “ the group said in a statement.

They added, "If the WDC approve the name is forwarded to the Committee of Finance, Councillor's Committee, Dar es Salaam City Council, Regional Consultative Committee and the office of the regional head then published in a gazette notice."

The Wanyama Street that leads to Kinesi Stadium was unveiled by Mayor for Ubongo municipality Boniface Jacob on Saturday.

The Harambee Stars midfielder, who is in Tanzania for a holiday, was honoured after attending a local march.

Wanyama thanked the government and promised to visit again.
