President Uhuru Kenyatta Asks Kirinyaga Residents to Decide Between Anne Waiguru and Martha Karua for Governorship

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday failed to openly declare support for Jubilee's Kirinyaga gubernatorial candidate, former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru whose main rival is NARC-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua.

Speaking during a rally in Kirinyaga, President Kenyatta paraded Waiguru and Karua and told the residents that he was okay with whoever won the governorship race between the two.

Kenyatta further announced that he would offer a State job to whoever lost the election between the two fierce rivals.

"Hawa wawili ni wetu. Nyinyi wenyewe mtachagua yule mnataka nifanye kazi naye. Yule atashindwa asijali; nitamtafutia kitu ya kufanya," Kenyatta stated.

This loosely translates to: "These two are part of us. You choose the one you want me to work with. The one who loses should not worry as I will find her something to do."

Waiguru and Karua, who are both advocating for Uhuru’s re-election, have been engaged in a major political battle as they both look to clinch Kirinyaga’s top seat.

Ahead of the president’s tour to Kirinyaga, Waiguru's team had warned Karua not to attend the president's rallies.

“We belong to the Jubilee Party which the President is seeking re-election with and we are optimistic that he will campaign for us,” Waiguru's running mate Peter Ndambiri expressed.

He argued that the event was purely a Jubilee Party affair adding other parties allied to Jubilee and independent candidates have no business being there.

Political pundits have warned that the rivalry between Jubilee candidates and independent candidates as well as those from parties allied to Jubilee is a threat to Uhuru's re-election.

The differences between the two rival camps have led to chaos during President Kenyatta's campaigns in Muranga, Nyeri, Meru Tharaka-Nithi, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Uasin Gishu.
