Kalenjin Elders Reject Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto's Installment as Kipsigis Elder

Bomet Governor Issac Ruto on Sunday suffered a blow after Kalenjin elders from Nakuru rejected his installation as the Kipsigis community spokesperson on Saturday.

The elders led by Joseph Sang from Kuresoi, rejected Governor Ruto's installation as spokesperson stating that it could split the Kalenjin sub-tribes.

"The elders who crowned him defied a directive by Myoot Council of Elders national chairman Paul Leleito, who opposed it," Sang stated.

Elder Sang explained that the endorsement was not necessary as the region already had a spokesman in Deputy President William Ruto.

"If such an endorsement was necessary, we would have discussed it as Kalenjin elders but a few of us did it on their own" he stated.

Governor Ruto was installed as the Kipsigis spokesman on Saturday at Bomet Green Stadium.

The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) leader became the first Kipsigis leader to be given the title complete with traditional regalia and other leadership items

During the ceremony, Governor Ruto accused the Jubilee administration of sidelining the region but assured the residents that the National Super Alliance (NASA) would eradicate their problems.

"There are so many problems in Bomet. Jubilee has toured but has forgotten tea farmers and milk traders. When NASA takes over, we will solve their problems," he stated.
