Deputy President William Ruto Ridicules Meru Governor Peter Munya During Citizen TV Interview

Deputy President William Ruto has lashed out at Meru Governor Peter Munya saying he (Munya) seeks relevance by mentioning names of top leaders to remain relevant.

Ruto was speaking during an interview on Citizen TV where he was responding to a question on why most leaders claimed he was the stumbling block to President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.

In recent weeks, leaders including the Meru Governor, former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth and Kiambu Governor William Kabogo have faulted DP Ruto and accused him of tainting Uhuru's image, saying he interfered with the Jubilee Party nominations.

"I have had a chat with Munya and I am not afraid to say it on TV.

"I asked him, Why are you recruiting me into this problem? and he said, my friend, for me to have a credible fight, I need to up the stakes and blame it on a higher person," Ruto stated.

Munya recently claimed his rival for the Meru governorship seat Kiraitu Murungi was Ruto's project and blamed him for double standards.

Ruto urged leaders dragging him into their problems to avoid mentioning his name saying they should not try too hard to look relevant.

"...instead of fighting their competitors, they want to elevate the war so that they look like they are fighting a bigger person and try to earn some sympathy from whoever they are fighting with.

"Munya is not a member of Jubilee and I am not the one who told him not to come to Jubilee.

"He has told me himself that he wants to elevate the war to my level so that it gives him leverage to try and win from looking like an underdog," he remarked.
