Coast Jubilee Leaders Now Deny Issuing President Uhuru With 72-Hour Ultimatum

Two days after threatening to ditch President Uhuru Kenyatta, Jubilee Coastal leaders have changed their tune denying the claims.

The leaders denied issuing the president with a 72-hour ultimatum for talks failure to which the party would lose their support.

Matano Chengo, who is the Jubilee interim Mombasa Chairman, claimed that his words were taken out of context and gravely exaggerated to seem that he had threatened the president.

He added that he was "too small" a man to threaten Uhuru and further explained that all he had asked for was to get an audience with the president.

Mr Chengo was speaking on behalf of other Jubilee chairmen from the six coastal counties where he clarified that if the 72 hours lapsed without a word from the president, they would travel to Nairobi to beg him to listen to their grievances.

“Our concern is that nothing is happening on the ground. Let Uhuru not be cheated that campaigns going on. This is something all the six chairmen noticed and raised," he explained.

The chairmen claimed that they had been locked out of Jubilee Party affairs adding that candidates in the Coast did not have the party’s interest at heart but were only after money.

He mentioned that political brokers from Nairobi were interfering with Jubilee campaigns in the region, giving false information to party leaders Uhuru and Ruto.

On Saturday, the leaders had expressed their frustation about the party affairs threatening to withdraw their support if the president didn't address their issues.

“Only a month is left to the elections...we will not be left behind. If we will not have met the President after 72 hours, we will meet here again to give the way forward," Chengo stated.
