Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome has issued a security alert to Nairobi residents ahead of the August General Election.
Koome outlined the top 10 areas where security personnel are on high alert, blacklisting them as hotspots within the city.
The areas include Dandora Estate, Umoja, Mowlem, Savannah Estate, Landhies Road and Globe Roundabout within the city centre.
Slum areas on the watch list include Kibera, Mukuru, Sinai and Mathare.
The police boss added that extra police officers have been deployed to the said areas to prevent an escalation of the heated political temperatures.
"The list is long but generally all informal settlements are on our watch list. These areas have big populations and we shall deploy an extra number of officers. The threat level in these areas is higher," Koome stated.
He was speaking at a meeting held for police commanders at the Utalii Hotel in Nairobi on Tuesday.
The alert comes soon after two others were issued by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNHCR).
The IEBC warned that Likoni constituency is the most likely constituency to experience election violence due to an alarming number of gangs and hateful leaflets being circulated in the area.
