9 People Killed in Jima Village, Lamu County

At least nine people have reportedly lost their lives following a Saturday morning attack in Jima and Pandanguo villages in Lamu County.

The attack is said to have been carried out in the wee hours of Saturday by suspected Al Shabaab militants as confirmed by local administrators.

However, other reports indicated that four people were killed during the incident after being beheaded.

"Nine people were killed, some were shot dead and others hacked," a police officer stated.

"It is true we have lost nine people in today’s attack. You will get details from our bosses,” another officer affirmed.

This comes barely a week after the same militants raided the area, razed down Pandanguo Police Post and destroyed a communication mast.

The assailants are said to have struck at around 5 am on Wednesday and headed towards the Post where a fierce fire exchange ensued before the militants commandeered the officers' vehicle.

Police officers and soldiers from the Kenya Defence Forces spent the better part of the day fighting the attackers who hid into the notorious Boni Forest.

A section of area residents affirmed that there were gunshots and explosions throughout the day as the officers pursued the attackers.

Two police officers and a number of the Al Shabaab fighters were killed in the exchange.

Several people have recently lost their lives in surprise attacks carried out in the region especially involving Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

A week ago, eight people including four police officers and four pupils died after a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an IED.
