NASA Leaders Announce That Elections Must Go on as Planned

A group of National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders on Wednesday issued a statement on the upcoming General Election stating that the elections must go on as planned without any postponements

The Opposition leaders led by Siaya Senator James Orengo dismissed claims by Jubilee leaders that NASA was not ready for the August 8 elections stating that they were ready and prepared to face off with their opponents.

The team also dismissed claims that they were using the Judiciary to delay the elections explaining that they had challenged the ballot papers tender to enhance credibility in the electoral process and ensure that IEBC conducts a free and fair election.

“We, NASA, are committed and ready for the August 8 election. I want to tell Jubilee that instead of complaining of our court cases they should be preparing themselves to go home come August 8 because people are fed up with their empty promises and corruption,” Mr Orengo mentioned.

According to Orengo, NASA is only interested in a free, fair and credible election and that is why they have been seeking intervention and interpretation of the courts in circumstances where they felt aggrieved with IEBC's decision on a given matter.

Homa Bay County Woman Rep Gladys Wanga on her part noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta had sensed defeat in the coming polls.

She cited the recent attack by the President on the Judiciary terming them as the "last kicks of dying horse".

“Uhuru and his government are in panic mode and that is why they are all over Raila, the Judiciary, Justice George Odunga, and Chief Justice David Maraga,” Wanga stated.

Last week, President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto accused NASA of not being ready for the elections stating that they had resorted to court battles to scuttle the electoral process.
