Shinyalu MP Silverse Anami Arrested For Disrupting CS Sicily Kariuki's Event

Shinyalu Member of Parliament (MP) Silverse Anami has been arrested.

The MP was apprehended as he was driving from a church in Kakamega Town and taken to Kakamega Police Station.

According to Western Region Police Commander Moses Ombati, Anami was taken in for questioning after he allegedly stormed and disrupted a rally presided over by Public Services and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki.

Ms Kariuki was in the region for the launch of the National Youth Service (NYS) Youth Programme where she was also expected to issue cheques from the funds.

"We have been looking for the MP and caught up with him as he left a church on his way to Kakamega town," Ombati stated.

He added, "He is being questioned and will record a statement before he is arraigned in court on Monday."

At the same time, police officers were looking for eight people believed to be Mr Anami's supporters who are accused of disrupting the CS's meeting.

The MP was, however, released shortly after Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale visited the police station.

"We are reading mischief in this matter. The police have waded into the political arena in Kakamega and we will not be intimidated," Senator Khalwale stated.

He added,"I came here today because Mr Anami was arrested. We have managed to secure his release, however his release is conditional that he should report back to the station on Monday."

Khalwale noted that Anami would only report back to the station if the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet wrote to them explaining reasons for the arrest.
