President Uhuru Kenyatta Warns Against Violence During Rallies

President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned his supporters and those of National Super Alliance (NASA) Raila Odinga leader against engaging in violence.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, the President cautioned those who had been engaging in cases of violence during this electioneering period.

Kenyatta stated that every person had a right to air their opinions without being intimidated adding that the ballot would determine the ultimate winner of the polls.

He discouraged against the political intolerance witnessed in the recent past where rallies have been disrupted with rival groups engaging in name calling and stone throwing.

The Head of State added that insults and violence would not help in boosting the popularity of any politician urging everyone to make their decision on who to vote for during the August polls.

“I urge my supporters and those of Raila Odinga to maintain peace as we head to the election time. Let us stop throwing insults and stones because they will not add any votes,” he stated.

President Kenyatta further warned against hate messages being propagated on social media noting that leaders should be allowed to speak their minds without interference.

“Let politicians say whatever they want to. Even if you don't hold the same opinion you will make your decision on the ballot,” he urged.

Kenyatta was speaking a day after the Opposition leader's convoy was pelted with stones in Thika and Githurai areas while campaigning in the Central region.
