IEBC Summons 37 Politicians over Election Malpractices

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's (IEBC) disciplinary committee has summoned 37 politicians to appear before it over allegations of malpractice.

18 of the 37 politicians are expected to appear before IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati today.

Some of the cases to be heard include one pitting Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga against his rival Ibrahim Memba.

Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro and Ruaraka Member of Parliament Tom Kajwang have also been summoned to appear before the committee over chaos that occurred in Mathare.

On Thursday, IEBC is expected to deliver a ruling in the case pitting incumbent Migori Governor Okoth Obado against Ochillo Ayako in the Migori Governorship contest.

The disciplinary committee has in the past few weeks delivered a number of rulings in regard to election malpractices.

Last week, the committee disqualified Rarieda independent parliamentary candidate Augustine Netto Adhola from the upcoming elections over claims that he was using Opposition Leader Raila Odinga's images on his campaign posters.

The disciplinary committee also fined Makadara Parliamentary aspirant Robert Momanyi Sh250,000 for using images of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto yet he is not a Jubilee Party member.
