Joseph Minjike Gaku Uses Wheelbarrow in Campaigns for Othaya MP Seat

A 22-year-old parliamentary candidate has stunned many with his preferred method of campaigning which involves using a wheelbarrow.

Joseph Minjike Gaku, who is vying for the Othaya Parliamentary seat on an Agano Party ticket, traverses the constituency addressing locals using simple equipment including a loud speaker, battery, amplifier and one microphone.

According to the Water Engineering student at the Kenya Water Institute, he decided to use a wheelbarrow since it enabled him to interact with the people directly.

He has been traversing wards in Othaya, Chinga, Iria-ini, Karima and Mahiga where he meets over 300 people daily.

The young politician explained that he rents the wheelbarrow from a friend paying for it daily at an agreed fee.

“I am not intimidated by the big spenders and fuel guzzlers, my fate lies with the Othaya people,” he stated.

Operating on a budget Sh50,000, Gaku is confident that he will carry the day on August 8 and succeed Mary Wambui.

He will be facing Jubilee’s Gichuki Mugambi, independent candidate Wambugu Wainaina and DP candidate Peter King’ara in the battle for the seat that was once held by former president Mwai Kibaki.
