Ballot Papers for Governors, Woman Representatives and Senators to Arrive on Tuesday

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that part of the ballot papers for the August General Election will arrive today.

Through its Twitter timeline, the Commission stated that the papers for Governor, Woman Representative and Senator seats will “land in the country at 7 pm tonight”.

The papers were being printed by Dubai-based Al Ghurair company.

The polls body, however, did not give any information regarding those of the Members of County Assemblies and the presidential ones.

IEBC made the statement amid a pending appeal regarding the printing of the presidential ballot papers which the High Court suspended and nullified a tender given to Al Ghurair.

Court of Appeal's five-judge bench is on Thursday set to either uphold or quash the decision of the lower court in the case filed by the Commission.

The ruling on the presidential ballot papers printing tender will be eagerly awaited since it could determine whether Kenyans will go to the polls come August.

During the first day of the appeal, IEBC lawyer Paul Muite warned that preparations for the presidential poll had been distracted by the case adding that there was limited time to start the tendering process afresh.

“We will not have presidential ballot papers if we do not start printing on Tuesday as it had been envisaged. It is impossible for IEBC to kick start the tender,” he stated.

On his part, Attorney General Githu Muigai told the court that the country risked being thrown into anarchy if the election is not held on August 8.
