TIFA Poll Shows Anne Waiguru Ahead of Martha Karua in Kirinyaga Governorship Contest

Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) firm has released a new poll for the Governorship contests in Kirinyaga, Nairobi and Kilifi Counties.

In the Kirinyaga County Governorship race, former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru emerged as the most preferred candidate.

Waiguru garnered 55% followed by Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua who got 35% whereas incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi garnered 3%.

Kirinyaga County residents prefer President Kenyatta in the Presidential contest. According to the TIFA poll, if elections were held today, he (Kenyatta) would get 93% of the votes while Mr Odinga would secure a meagre 1%.

In the Nairobi Governorship race, TIFA revealed that Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko are in a neck-to-neck battle.

The poll conducted in July showed that Sonko and Kidero were tied with a 44% rating.

In a poll conducted earlier this month Kidero was leading Sonko with 45% against 44%.

In the Senatorial race, Jubilee party nominee Johnson Sakaja is the most preferred candidate with 40% followed by Edwin Sifuna of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who has 24% rating.

The Woman Rep contest has Esther Passaris of ODM leading with 50%, incumbent Rachael Shebesh is second with 31% whereas Nadya Khan and Rahab Ndambuki came in third and fourth with 1 % each.

Opposition Leader Raila Odinga is the most preferred Presidential candidate in Nairobi County with 55 %. His closest challenger in the city is President Uhuru Kenyatta who got a 39% approval rating. 5% of the city voters are still undecided.

 

In Kilifi County, incumbent Governor Amason Kingi is the most preferred governorship candidate. In the poll, he garnered 51% against Gideon Mungaro's 16% and Kazungu Kambi's 15%.
