Uhuru Kenyatta Donates Sh5 Million to Suleiman Shahbal's Campaigns to Beat Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho

The Jubilee Party is keen on snatching Mombasa governorship from incumbent Ali Hassan Joho and has done a lot to sell its agenda to the voters.

In the latest development, President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly donated Sh5 million to Jubilee gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shahbal to boost his campaigns.

According to sources privy to the matter, the money was delivered to Shahbal through proxies during a fundraiser held at Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort.

The fundraiser brought together the business community from Mombasa, Nairobi and abroad with a total of Sh 60 million raised during the Sunday event.

President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have greatly supported Shahbal, contributing both in cash and kind with the two attending several campaign rallies held in the county.

Shahbal is Joho's main challenger with the Governor having been involved in political rivalry and a series of altercations with the President and Ruto. 

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy leader enjoys significant support in the county that is perceived to be an opposition stronghold.

A recent opinion poll released by Infotrack revealed that Joho has a commanding lead of more than 63 percent.

Others in the race include are Senator Hassan Omar of Wiper Party and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti of Vibrant Democratic Party.
