Raila Odinga Attended Debate After His One Condition was Met by Organizers

National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga has revealed that he agreed to attend the debate after he was given assurance that he would not share the podium with any other candidate other than President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking to reporters outside the Catholic University Auditorium on Monday evening, Raila explained that he changed his mind to attend the debate after he was promised that he would not debate "fringe candidates".

“I had a breakfast meeting with the chief editors of the major media houses in the country and I gave them an assurance that if they made it a serious debate, in other words, not just a talking shop, then we would attend,” he stated.

The Opposition chief had issued a condition that presidential candidates had to meet a certain threshold of followers to qualify to be on the same table with him. When organizers of the event met this condition, he eventually showed up.

During the presidential debate, Raila had a full 90- minute session which he used to elaborate on some of his major campaign promises.

Some of the promises he made include; improving security, reducing rent and standardizing the cost of living and the economy.

Uhuru snubbed the highly- anticipated presidential debate to hold a meeting with Samburu County leaders at State House.
