The National Super Alliance (NASA) has moved to court challenging a decision by acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to impose a dawn to dusk curfew in Lamu, Garissa and Tana River Counties.
The Opposition alliance wants the curfew in the three coastal counties declared as null and void.
On Sunday, NASA leaders while speaking at Mkunguni square on Lamu Island alleged that the Jubilee administration was planning to use a dusk-dawn curfew in the counties to scare away voters and rig elections.
NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga stated that the curfew was not a solution to dealing with insecurity in the county and alleged that it was a plan to rig the elections adding that President Uhuru Kenyatta should lift the curfew immediately.
"Whatever it is that Jubilee plans to achieve with the curfew isn't genuine. We want it lifted immediately because it will affect the voting pattern ... the government should strengthen the security apparatus instead of opting for curfews," he told residents at a rally on Saturday.
NASA deputy flag bearer Kalonzo Musyoka on his part noted that having a curfew two weeks to elections was not legitimate.
"Bringing a curfew two weeks to the election is a way of rigging and trying to force leaders to the people," Musyoka stated.
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula also called for the removal of the curfew stating that the ban was not necessary at the moment.
Earlier this month, CS Matiang'i gazetted a three-month curfew following increased Al Shabaab attacks in the region.
