Supporters of the Jubilee Party and Frontier Alliance Party (FAP), which is affiliated to the ruling coalition, have clashed ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's tour to Marsabit County.
Trouble emerged after a bitter rivalry between two gubernatorial candidates — the incumbent Ukur Kanacho Yattani (Frontier Alliance Party) and Mohamud Mohamed Ali alias Abshiro of Jubilee — played out at Moi Girls High School.
The warring groups are said to have hurled stones at each other chanting slogans in support of their respective candidates.
Police were immediately deployed to restore calm before the Head of State and his entourage arrived. The Jubilee brigade would first tour Moyale Town before moving to Marsabit Town.
Frontier Alliance Party (FAP) endorsed President Kenyatta’s candidature in May.
The Party led by Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani passed the resolution in Nairobi at a Special National Delegates Conference whose main agenda was to pick a presidential candidate for the August 8 General Election.
President Kenyatta will today head to Marsabit and Samburu counties as he campaigns for his re-election.
