Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Blames Senator Mike Sonko for His Failures

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has accused Senator Mike Sonko of frustrating his efforts during his time as the City County boss.

Governor Kidero on Wednesday told the media that Sonko was an "incompetent" Senator adding that he (Sonko) did not understand his role in the Senate.

Kidero noted that he would have done much more for Nairobi residents if he would have had a competent Legislator.

“Senator Mike Sonko did not understand what his roles were because of incompetence.

"People like Kimani Wamatangi, Bonny Khalwale and Anyang’ Nyongo knew what the role of a senator entailed and they will probably go down as the best senators in the last parliament,”  Kidero stated.

The Governor also took a swipe at Sonko's manifesto stating that the Senator's team had copied his strategic plan.

“It is all copied from ours. Tell me what is different from ours? The only difference is that they do not understand the job they supposedly want to do,” he stated.

Kidero and Sonko have in the past few weeks been engaged in a bitter exchange of words with each party accusing the other of failing in their duties.

Senator Sonko has in the past accused the governor of failing City residents, despite receiving billions of shillings from revenue collection and the national government.

“The current county government has proved unable to work for the people. Nairobi residents pay the highest taxes. The county collects billions of shillings from rates and levies and a lot of money from the national government. But the governor cannot tell us what he has done with it,” Sonko stated in a past interview.

Sonko, Kidero, Lawyer Miguna Miguna and former Legislator Peter Kenneth are all eyeing the Nairobi Governorship seat in the upcoming polls.
