Anne Waiguru to be Summoned by Police Over Chaos at Her Kirinyaga Rally

Police have stated that they will summon Gubernatorial Aspirant Anne Waiguru over chaos that rocked her rally on Tuesday in Ndia, Kirinyaga County.

County Commander David Kirui stated that Ms Waiguru will record a statement at Kerugoya Police Station over the incident.

Kirui noted that several other witnesses had been interrogated by the police and Ms Waiguru would be the last person to record a statement.

"We are planning to summon Ms Waiguru so that she can explain to us what happened and record her statement," Mr Kirui highlighted.

The Police boss warned that hooliganism would not be tolerated in the region, adding that those who caused the chaos would be arrested and prosecuted.

He advised candidates to ask for police security when they hold rallies.

"Ms Waiguru did not inform us that she had a rally that day. We only responded when we heard gunshots fired by her bodyguards," Kirui noted.

Waiguru was whisked to safety after men alleged to be supporters of her rival, Martha Karua stormed the rally on Tuesday evening.

The rowdy group started shouting that Waiguru was not welcomed in the area perceived to be Karua's stronghold, plunging the rival groups into a fierce fight.

The goons are also reported to have stoned one of Waiguru's campaign cars after which they disappeared with the keys.

Calm was restored later on after more police reinforcement was deployed to the area.
