Police Spokesperson Charles Owino has confirmed that indeed slain IEBC ICT Manager, Mr Christopher Msando had reported that his life was in danger.
Speaking on KTN News Tuesday morning, Owino admitted that Mr Msando had gone to him seeking advice on how to proceed as he had been receiving death threats.
"He reported to me, given that we come from the same area, he would feel that I was senior enough and he would report to me.
"I personally referred him to Central Police Station and he was referred to a CID (Criminal Investigations Department) officer, he recorded statements with the CID," Mr Owino narrated.
According to Owino, however, Mr Msando failed to follow up with the officers on two occasions despite efforts by the officers to pursue details on the case.
"He became so busy. On two occasions, the CID called him because there are (phone) numbers that he was to send back to CID and he did not go.
"They (CID) called me and I asked him why he had not taken the numbers to the CID. He told me, 'I think they (the death threats) have subsided, I think the threats have stopped. But I'm also very busy, I'll find time and go.' This is an honest account from myself," Owino conveyed.
The Spokesperson contacted the CID officers who were involved with the investigations to ask if the IEBC Manager had returned to give the required information and was told that Msando did not.
Mr Owino also dismissed reports suggesting that Msando's fingers had been chopped off in an aim of acquiring biometric details and access to sensitive data from the IEBC.
He clarified that the Manager's arms were intact with the body but there were signs of strangling and head injuries which the pathologists will deal with.
The Police Spokesperson urged members of the public to allow investigative agencies to do their job and to avail any helpful information they may come across.
He emphasised that any leads ought to be given to the authorities to prevent compromise to the investigations, as revealing crucial information would help killers devise ways of evading justice.
