6 Kenyan Politicians Who Have Gone Missing During 2017 Election Period

The political campaigns for this year's elections are finally on the home stretch.

With only a few days to the polls, it would be interesting to look back at the intrigues that marred this electioneering period that has not only been marred by constant legal battles challenging the electoral process but also by mysterious disappearances of leaders.

Kenyans.co.ke delves into the incidences where politicians went missing creating a lot of tension and anxiety.

1. Patrick Kahari Mwangi

Kahari Mwangi is the latest politician to have gone missing under unclear circumstances.

The Kanyenyaini Independent MCA candidate was reported missing on 31st July 2017 in Muranga County.

Muranga County Commander Naomi Ichami had assured that investigations into the matter were ongoing.

His whereabouts are still unknown.

2. Ezra Odhiambo

Rangwe MP aspirant on a Green Congress of Kenya (GCK) party ticket, Ezra Odhiambo was reported missing for close to a week in July.

He, however, resurfaced when he presented himself to media offices healthy and unharmed.

3. Clifford Mwallo

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominee for Kajulu ward in Kisumu County was reported missing by his family in early July.

M Mwallo’s wife Elizabeth Odhiambo confirmed the incident stating that she file a missing person report at Kisumu Central Police Station and the matter was being investigated.

4. Kennedy Kinyanjui Kabaka

The politician allied to Jubilee Party went missing in April.

Ikinu Member of County Assembly (MCA) aspirant Kennedy Kinyanjui Kabaka was reported missing at Githunguri police station by a boda-boda rider who found his car abandoned by the roadside.

5. Charles Chege Gitau

In April, Aspiring Kabete Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Chege Gitau, aka Fresh, was allegedly abducted for a whole week

When he was found, he revealed he was attacked by armed men as he was driving towards his home in Mountain View estate, Nairobi.

In a statement recorded in Narok and forwarded to Kiambu Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Chege said the armed criminals ordered him out of his car and forced him into a second vehicle and drove off.

6. Newton Ochieng’

Though not a politician, the writer of the book ‘The Raila Conspiracy’ went missing a day before its launch.

The writer, who resurfaced five days after he was reported missing, was about to reveal how elections in Kenya have been rigged over the years.
