Police Release Moi University Student Salad Tari Gufu Linked to Al Shabaab

A Moi University student who was suspected of being an Al Shabab operative was on Thursday released and charges against him dropped.

25-year-old Salad Tari Gufu was arrested at the Huruma Police Station by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit after he presented himself to clear his name.

After cooperating with the police, Senior Resident Magistrate Hellen Onkwani ordered that Mr Tari be released as he was not the prime suspect.

"The respondent was not supposed to be arrested and it was his brother that was to be arrested." the Magistrate ruled.

The university student surrendered after finding out that the police had offered a Sh2 Million reward to anyone who would turn him in.

"I am not involved in any terror activities and I am not armed like the police are saying. I am a student at the Moi University and I just completed my attachment waiting to resume my studies in September after the elections," he clarified while he surrendered.

He put up a post on Facebook exonerating himself from the accusations before reporting to the police station.
