NGO Co-ordination Board Deregisters Rosemary Odinga's Foundation

The government has shut down the operations of Key Empowerment Foundation, a non-governmental organisation linked to NASA leader Raila Odinga's daughter, Rosemary.

In the notice published on Friday by the NGO Co-ordination Board, the organisation was deregistered after it emerged that it was involved in politics.

"Your organization is operating an illegal bank account titled 'Payment of NASA Presidential Agents' with City Bank contrary to the provisions of the Act and its attendant provisions.

"The Central Bank of Kenya is hereby advised to freeze the said account with immediate effect," the notice read in part.

The new directive comes days after the Board asked the Central Bank to assist in investigations of a transaction conducted on the said bank account.

In a letter addressed to CBK Governor, Dr Patrick Ngugi Njoroge, the Board's Executive Director Fazul Mahamed noted that Key Empowerment Foundation Kenya, had received Sh530 Million from George Soros Foundation.

The NGOs watchdog substantively proved that Rosemary’s Foundation had breached the NGOs Co-ordination Act 1990, the NGOs Co-ordination Regulations 1992 as well as Terms and Conditions attached to the certificate of registration.

Here is Friday's letter that has, in effect, frozen funds intended for the NASA coalition.
