Huduma Centres to Remain Open on Saturday and Sunday for Kenyans to Collect IDs

The government has announced that all Huduma centers will remain open on this weekend in preparation for the General Election.

The centres will be operational on Saturday and Sunday to enable Kenyans to collect ID cards to enable them vote during the Tuesday polls.

IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba earlier had stated that the ID is a crucial document in the identification of voters especially in the event that one does not appear in the biometric register.

“In the event you do not appear in the biometric register a polling clerk will use your ID number to conduct an alpha numeric match to see if your details are in the system.

"If your name does appear, the clerk will check again in the biometric register and if the details do not appear, one shall have to fill a Form 32A in the presence of party agents so that he/she can vote,” he explained during a Wednesday interview on Citizen TV.

During the interview, Mr Chiloba noted that the Constitution provides IEBC with seven days to announce the results but noted that the commission was working to ensure that the results are released much earlier alluding that it might take four days.

"It will all depend on the efficiency of counting results and network connectivity. Our projection is not more than four days," Chiloba stated.

He, however, noted that it might take less than four days to announce the results and urged members of the public to follow all the instructions and minimize any interference.

The Electoral body is using the Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System- a combination of biometric voter registration, the electronic voter identification device and the results transmission system.
