Police Deny Raiding NASA Offices in Westlands

The police department has dismissed reports claiming that armed police officers raided the National Super Alliance tallying centre in Nairobi's Westlands area.

In a statement issued on Saturday, spokesman George Kinoti denied that his officers were involved in the raid where a number of computers were taken away and other property damaged.

He further stated that the alleged break in had not been reported at any police station.

"Our attention has been drawn to claims in the media that Police officers broke into some offices belonging to a political party on the night of Friday 4th August 2017. These allegations are untrue and further wish to state that no such report of a burglary has been made," read the statement.

He, therefore, invited anyone with any information regarding the break in to inform the nearest Police Station for immediate investigations to be conducted.

On Friday, reports emerged indicating that close to 20 heavily armed men had raided the offices destroying some of the installations.

Siaya Senator James Orengo further claimed that two experts who had been invited by the Alliance to help in election matters had been arrested.

Orengo claimed that the officials, who have expertise in election matters, had arrived in the country as “friends of NASA” but were apprehended from their houses in Westlands.

According to Orengo, the officers including an American and 1 Canadian were thrown into the back of a waiting vehicle and taken the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
