Siaya Senator Claims NASA Officials Were Arrested After Raid on Nairobi Offices

Siaya Senator James Orengo claims that election experts who had been contracted by the National Super Alliance (NASA) have been arrested,

Speaking during an interview with a local station, the Senator claimed that the officials who have expertise in election matters had arrived in the country as “friends of NASA” but were apprehended from their houses in Westlands.

According to Orengo, the officers including an American, once Canadian and 2 Ghanaians were thrown into the back of a waiting vehicle and taken the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

"We don’t know where they are and we fear they could be deported by these people. They were picked up from their houses," he stated.

He added that the Alliance was consulting with the United States Ambassador to ascertain whether the officers had been deported.

Orengo maintained that people suspected to be police officers raided NASA offices in Westlands area where some of the equipment was vandalised.

NASA is set to address a press conference regarding the matter at noon.

On Friday, reports emerged that NASA offices located at a private compound had been raided with photos circulating online showing some of the damaged equipment.

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi alleged that hooded men stormed the offices and took away laptops, desktop computers and destroyed their servers.

He also claimed that workers at the offices which are set to be NASA's tallying centre for the General Election were harassed.

However, Nairobi Police Commandant Japheth Koome dismissed the matter stating that he was not aware of the alleged raid.
