IEBC to Investigate Claims That System Was Hacked Using the Late Chris Msando's Password

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has assured that the body is conducting investigations regarding claims of hacking.

Speaking during a press conference, Chebukati failed to confirm or deny allegations made by NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga that the IEBC servers were hacked and results manipulated.

He stated that as at now, he could not ascertain whether the system, which was meant to transmit results from the polling stations, was interfered with.

“If there are claims we will look into them but as for now I cannot say whether or not the system has been hacked,” he stated.

He stated that the body would come up with an investigative system and a methodology to establish whether the claims by Odinga were true.

In terms of the results, Chebukati reiterated that the results, which were being relayed from the different centres, are not final since the body had to confirm them before making the final announcement.

He added that the form 34As which have the final results from various polling stations were available to the political party agents and would be uploaded to the public portal.

Earlier on, Odinga claimed that the password of former ICT boss, the late Chris Msando, could have been used to log in to the Commission's system and results altered to favour Jubilee party.

According to Odinga, records indicate that the system was accessed by Msando, Chebukati and an unidentified third person.

The opposition leader revealed that the hackers created errors in the document that had presidential votes.
