ODM’s Said Abdalla Concedes Defeat to Journalist Mohammed Ali in Nyali Race

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate for the Nyali Parliamentary seat Said Abdalla Salim has conceded defeat.

Abdalla, who is Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s cousin, was trailing former KTN investigative journalist Mohammed Ali in the provisional results from availed on Wednesday morning.

Results on the IEBC website showed that the former journalist had garnered 24,201 votes (43,45%) against the ODM candidate who got 14,790 votes (26,55%).

"I would like to congratulate my opponent Mohammed Ali on winning the seat. I sincerely thank all those who took their time to come out and vote for me yesterday," Abdalla stated.

Prior to the elections, Mohammed Ali had lost in the ODM Party nominations for the Nyali MP seat and later declared that he would contest as an independent candidate.

Ali would later launch complaints indicating the primaries had been marred with such deep and blatant irregularities that clearly favoured Said.

He added that Governor Joho had engaged in voter bribery, intimidation, ballot stuffing to ensure Said won.
