Former Changamwe MP Ramadhan Kajembe's Family Arrested at Polling Station

Family members of former Changamwe Member of Parliament Ramadhan Kajembe are currently being held at a police station in Jomvu Constituency.

Mr Kajembe's wife, daughter and three others were apprehended after storming Amani Primary School polling station with armed men.

The group of five claimed that rigging was taking place as IEBC officials counted votes.

The incident pitted rival groups against each other as Kajembe's daughter was also accused of having entered the polling station with a media pass in order to facilitate rigging in favour of her brother.

Police intervened after one of the armed men pulled out his gun, threatening the lives of the IEBC officials and party agents.

Confirming the incident, Changamwe DCIO Francis Wanjau told journalists that the five suspects were being held at the Changamwe Police Station.

Kajembe's son, Mr Mwidani Kajembe, was vying as an independent parliamentary candidate for the Jomvu seat against his brother-in-law, ODM's Bady Twalib

The former Changamwe MP caused further tension within the family after he endorsed Jubilee party's candidate for the seat, Mr Karisa Nzai.

Provisional results from the IEBC showed that the ODM candidate was in the lead.
